CC Smugglers started off as young British street performers. However over the years their infamously engaging live performances and innovative brand of self promotion saw them take the show on to stages and audiences across the world.
Formed by a young busker; frontman Richie Prynne in his early twenties. He soon recruited his childhood friends Dan Edwards, Ryan Thomas and Sam Barrett who spent years honing their craft on the streets of London, Cambridge and Bedford England. In later years Manchester based pianist and front man in his own right Tom Seals and Jazz trained drummer Felix Weldon joined the motley crew and so the dream-team as it is now known was complete.
From early on ‘Guerrilla busking’ had become absolutely fundamental to CC Smugglers innovative brand promotion. They would pop up and play to queuing crowds waiting to go in to shows of artists they saw as relevant. The long list of targets included the fans of SeaSick Steve, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Devil Makes Three, Jools Holland and more.
In 2013 their journey took a drastic turn as they designed a bid to create a career as touring stage performers. In their usual innovative way they used their well rehearsed approach of ‘Guerrilla Busking’ to create a media splash and reach bigger number of fans than ever before triggering a series of events that saw them eventually touring their stage-show across the world and becoming festival favourites.
The new album ‘How High’ was released in Spring 2019 and is available now!

The United Stoats of America know those tunes by Mary Hopkins, Atomic Kitten, U2, Roberta Flack and Queen are really only rollicking hillbilly tunes ruined by being played with the wrong instruments and that artists like Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves and Hank Williams had some good ideas for songs, but didn’t really finish em off. The Stoats take the essence of bluegrass, rockabilly & skiffle and add some rock solid drumming and transform other people songs into something totally unique. Quite professional Melanie Stovell – The British Meat Foundation. Live at Guilfest 2005, The United Stoats Of America were spectacularly joined on stage by a shed load of special guests including the Levellers sound engineer, a drag artist, 30 fez heads, 2 belly dancers, a bald giant painted in the stars and stripes and a stuffed camel, for one of the most entertaining visual shows of the festival. The United Stoats of America take themselves seriously musically and after their debut gig The Mean Fiddler Country Punk Extravaganza at the Garage in Islington have gone on to appear at some of Londons finest alt country venues including Whats Cooking, The Luminaire Kilburn & The Windmill in Brixton. The band who refuse to appear on TV or sign to a major record company and have never been reviewed in any of the music papers, have got where they are today purely on their own efforts and the word of mouth support of their fans.
